Tea Culture Trip

2024-04-17 10:20

It's the spring tea season of the year again while the tea mountains turn green and the tea gardens release fragrance. On April 13th, Haida and Hangzhou Chengxi Middle School jointly held a traditional Chinese tea culture activity, leading foreign teachers to experience Chinese tea culture through practice.

Appreciating the beautiful scenery along the way, we strolled to the intangible cultural heritage tea studio on the tea mountain, sat down and drank a cup of fresh Longjing green tea. Teacher Wang from Chengxi Middle School introduced the development history of Chinese tea to Haida foreign teachers and provided a detailed explanation of the aesthetic of tea making culture in the Song Dynasty. Every detail, from the amount of tea powder, the amount of brewing water and brewing times, showed the vastness and profoundness of Chinese tea culture.

Our foreign teachers listened attentively. Under the guidance, they learned about the utensils for brewing tea, and experienced the "intangible cultural heritage" of brewing tea. Finally they finished works of tea brewing.

After brewing tea, Teacher Wang introduced the types, growth environment, and picking techniques of tea to everyone, and led the foreign teachers into the tea garden to experience the joy of labor in nature. Teachers shuttled through the tea garden carrying bamboo baskets, picking each bud and leaf of the branches with their own hands, harvesting the full spring scenery and feeling the vigorous vitality of the plants.

After lunch and rest, we continued our team building activities on the football field. In the activities of "not toppling the forest", "building towers together", and "throwing pots with joy", everyone insistently tried to challenge difficulties, encouraged each other, and constantly summarized experiences. Finally we broke out of our limits through concerted efforts.

Through this tea culture tour,  our foreign teachers not only felt the profound connotation and experienced the charm of Chinese tea culture, but also made new friends. The entire team-building activity ended in joy and fulfillment.
